This shows that a dry contact acts just like an ordinary switch. They are used to provide isolation between two circuits. One main advantage is that you can completely isolate the two circuits and check one circuit if any problem arises, without touching the second circuit.

Dry contact simply operates like an ordinary switch that opens or closes the circuit. When the contacts are closed the current flows through the contacts and when the contacts are opened no current flows through the contacts.

You can test the resistance across the coil terminals to see if the coil shows continuity or not. You should see some resistance, depending on the coil, it will be low or high, or somewhere in-between. The point is you don't want it to show open. If the coil is open then the relay is dead.

To Test the NC (Normally Closed) Terminal of a Relay Place one probe on the COM terminal and the other probe on the NC Terminal. Make sure that you read a resistance of near 0Ω. If you do, then the NC Terminal reads the correct resistance and should function properly.
